The process of self discovery is a lifetime journey. It’s a continuous process with different stages and as we grow from time to time, we discover new things about ourselves and realize more purpose for our life. Michelle Sandlin said “there is no greater journey than the one you must take to discover all of the mysteries that lie within you”’
Self discovery is a process of acquiring insight into one’s character. It is a journey of knowing your true self, identifying what you have passion for, what drives you, and what you do conveniently without stress. In discovering one’s self, there are several factors that come into play. The process of self discovery begins at a very tender age for every child. At this stage, it is the responsibility of every parent to help their children through the process of self-discovery.
Parenting in this 21st century has gone beyond just sending a child to school. It is deeper than the luxury given to them. The growth of the children is not dependent on only the money spent on them. Parents need to take some time out to understand, know and study their children. Observe the character they possess, their passion, what the child loves to do, and so on.
In doing this, parents help their children grow in line with their passion and such child gets to discover more things about themselves. This helps them to grow fast rather than stalling their progress with timidity. Individuals who are on the journey of self discovery also need to be very attentive to them. Be intentional about discovering yourself. You won’t live a self-fulfilling life if you don’t discover your passion. Be yourself and don’t try to be someone else. “You’ll never be able to find yourself if you’re lost in someone else”- Colleen Hoover. The journey to self discovery begins and ends with you.
Role models and mentors also play a vital role in self-discovery. So many people want to be either like their role models or mentors. This desire drives them to do more which as a result helps them to discover more things about their personality.
Most times, many people do not realize their strength until they see it in their role models or mentors. It unconsciously sparks something in them and ignites a burning passion that needs to be satisfied and maybe even do better.
Self discovery is an unending journey. Until we are no more, we will continue to discover more things about ourselves. Every discovery we make is either pointing us to our success or leading us to yet another discovery about ourselves. Don’t give up on yourself. Discover who you are and live in that capacity. Life is a journey, a journey of self discovery, walk it and make success.
