The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced on Monday the arrival of the CMA CGM SCANDOLA, a revolutionary LNG-powered container vessel with a capacity of 14,812 TEUs, at the Lekki Deep Sea Port.

In a statement released by Jibril Gawat, the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, the container vessel successfully docked at the port on Monday.

The vessel boasts an overall length (LOA) of 366 meters and a width of 51 meters, marking a significant milestone as the first LNG-powered container vessel to navigate West African waters, having previously made a stop in Tema before arriving at Lekki Port.

Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the management of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and CMA CGM for this groundbreaking development.

He described it as “a major feat in the Nigerian maritime industry” and applauded the continuous achievements since the port’s commissioning.

This noteworthy event follows closely on the heels of the recent berthing of the largest vessel by the Nigerian government at Lekki Sea Port, highlighting the port’s growing prominence in maritime activities.
