  • We are looking for an experienced Senior accountant (financial planning & reporting). You are to forecast revenues and expenditures and advise us on future budgeting. You typically report on business income and forecasts of the company’s financial health, as well as advise top management on methods to streamline production and reduce costs.
  • Ultimately, you will assist with the preparation and development of monthly financial reporting and supporting analytics an also assist in providing Ad Hoc financial analyses and data validation. As well as coordinate the Financial and Accounting responsibilities of the Church in order to ensure the financial system and goals of the Church are met and report to the Acting Head of finance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the overall operations of staff financial services, (billing receivables, and cashiering functions – petty cash, requisitions of the Church).
  • Provide direction and leadership in financial management, fiscal policies review and changes, and ensures compliance with church, state, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures.
  • Submits weekly cash position to the Pastorate.
  • Propose short and long range organizational financial goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures for Management approval.
  • Design, establish and maintain Departmental structure and staffing for effective accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage approved annual budgets for the church and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses
  • Plan, develop and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the church.
  • Conduct Risk analysis and assessment exercises of the overall financial system of the church
  • Ensure that goals, such as financial projects and plans are communicated as well as ensuring such set goals are met.
  • Responsible for the accounting processes of all tithes and offerings of the church
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted accounting policies and procedure.
  • Manage travel advances, purchase requisition and expense reimbursement reconciliation analysis (monthly, quarterly and annually) on a timely basis
  • Audit: Interacts with internal and external auditors, by providing information and access to accounting records as required.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing auditors with accounting document as requested and provide explanations for audit queries.
  • Recommends and participates in the development of church policies and procedures and serves on relevant church Committees.
  • Performs any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualification/Requirements

  • HND/BSC/MSc in finance or any other related program
  • Must be a member of an accounting professional body e.g. ICAN, CMA or CPA
  • 7 – 15 years’ proven years of experience as a Financial Controller, Accounting Supervisor, chief or senior accountant, preferable in a managerial role/capacity in any faith-based organization /Church, NGO or any other international and top organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • Good Microsoft Office Skills, Peachtree and Sage 50 accounting software
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Awareness of business trends and Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookup’s and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
